Wed Comp
Went to play wed comp yesterday. First time as a regular player playing there. It was pretty good fun. We won our doubles in two sets!! That’s something I did not expect. The standard over there is quite high (especially when you compare it with Springers). It was really good fun to have a few close games, especially in ladies doubles. I never thought I would enjoy that much of doubles games. The first half of the first game was really easy. We were 8 to zero leading. Then we found ourselves really struggling to get a point. Our opponents came back to 12 all. We finally secured 3 points (most of the points came from their unforced error, ie, tried to kill at the net, a relatively high shot, it went to the net.) The second game was completely the opposite. They were leading until 11 to 3 or 4. Then they started making mistakes again, hitting to the net, hit out etc. We finally got back to 14 all and won the game at 17 to 14. One thing I like about the comp there is the standard is quite similar. They have some selectors who arrange teams each year. You won’t be seeing one team beat the other very comfortably. Most likely, both teams will score a few points, and sometimes the winner is decided by the points the team had won the whole night.
I won my first mixed, although I played really bad and not used to Sam to cover me. I don’t know where to stay, when to take the shots. It was really confusing. But I guess as Sam is so obvious better than the other guy, we ended up winning the game at 21 to 10. (but the first half game was so close, we changed sides at 11 to 9.) hopefully, we can get better next time. Well, we got the whole season to practise.
The second man in our team was away. It was a pity that I could not practise with him. We lost at the end at 19 to 21. I should have played better, but for some reason, I was quite struggling to keep my concentration. Haven’t played for a while does not help either. I really need to work on my defence. But unfortunately, there will not be any badminton on Sundays over the next three weeks. Hopefully, my standard will not drop further.
Really enjoyed yesterday.
